This week I had to say goodbye to my best friend and I feel like i have lost a part of myself. For 11 years this little pig was the home of my heart. Ive never known such unconditional love, even in times I didn’t think I deserved it, and I’ve never loved so furiously. He’s seen me at my best and my worst and helped me through grief, love, loss and hardship. Hes been on adventures and filled my life with laughter. He’s charmed clients and tattooists and old ladies in the street and he would try to charm you too if he had the chance. I would like to thank all of those who got pet portraits from me this year, and to anyone who got tattooed by me this year in general, you’ve helped me pay for vet trips, specialists, MRIs, CT scans, ultrasounds. For people who donated to his care I’ll never forget the compassion and kindness of your actions Rest easy sweetest of boys, I’ll see you in the stars

It’s with a heavy heart I announce I will not be attending @theirongatetattooconvention convention this year. Sadly last week my dog Bronson was diagnosed with inoperable hepatic lymphoma in his liver. This is a terminal diagnosis, and an aggressive cancer and we are not sure how much time he has left. He’s currently on palliative care medication and is stable, spoilt and much happier, but he could decline pretty quickly at any moment. I love being a part of tattooing so much and was looking forward to returning to The Iron Gate, but he’s the one who for 11 years has held me together when times are hardest, and I would not forgive myself if I was not there for him now when he needs me most. I want Bronsons last days to be filled with sunshine, treats and love, and I’m going to make sure that they are 🌞❤️

I love everything about my job but there are two moments in tattooing that give me the most joy. One is when I watch someone go over to the mirror to see their new tattoo, and the smile that appears on their faces. The second is seeing that tattooed healed, and settled happily in to the skin. When I started getting tattooed before social media took the world by storm, the advice I was given was to look at healed work in a portfolio, to see if things that looked mint on day 1 stayed that way, to see if the colour had been packed in efficiently or if the skin was overworked and struggled to maintain vibrancy, to see if the lines still looked clean once they’d had a little time to creep outward. All tattoos change as they heal, and the best way to make sure they look good as you age is to make sure you’re going to someone who cares about the longevity of the thing you’ll have forever. I will be running a promotion in November for anyone who has ever been tattooed by me, all you’ll need to do is book a 15 minute time slot to come in and get your healed work photographed and you’ll be given a lucky dip pick of print, merch or a $50 or $100 gift voucher to go towards your next one.
